Bugatti once said that W.O.Bentley made the fastest trucks in the world, and although this 1930 Bentley 27Liter is not really a Bentley but a scaled up replica, it would truly qualify for Bugatti’s comment.
Built by Bob Petersen in England this replica is powered by a 27 liter Merlin V12 from a Mustang WW2 aeroplane, putting out around 650 – 700 hp so is very unstressed. Scaled up around 50% this is a massive car at over 3 ton, but it is engineered to be surprisingly easy and a delight to drive, provided you can afford to fill its massive petrol tank, and the 17 gallons of oil to do an oil change on the motor.
As Jay will show you in this video the car is a magnificent example of engineering, right down to concealing disc brakes within the dummy brake drums. Then he takes you on a decent road run, gotta love that exhaust sound too.
