This fascinating Morgan Factory Tour shows that even today there is a place in the market for hand crafted and assembled cars.
Morgan is a British Company producing its first car, a 3 wheeler, in 1911. Today it is the worlds oldest car manufacturer still owned solely by the same family.
Many older people will remember the original Morgan 3 wheeler produced up to 1939 and powered by an air-cooled JAP V Twin, these continued to be seen on the road especially in the UK well after the end of WW2. Today I see an occasional one on the road out for a run on a sunny day, the driver and sometimes a passenger obviously enjoying themselves. but larger car museums will often have one on show.
Morgan still manufacture 3 wheelers as in 2011 they released their new generation model powered by a 2000cc V twin.
Since the 1950″s Morgan became more famous for its conventional 4 wheel hand built and assembled sports cars that were really bred on the race track in the late 1930’s.
Popular are the +4, +8 and the Aero series, powered by a variety engines. The photo above is a 2013 coupe, all hand crafted powered with BMW engine and transmission making a very desirable car.
Morgan keep up with the future with their research and development. They have experimented with a fuel-cell car helped with Government assistance, and by the end of 2016 expect to have their EV3 model available for sale. This is an all electric 3 wheeler that will be in limited production so I expect this will ensure there will be the usual waiting list of 6 months or more.
Under the video is a list of posts I have done on Morgan, there is the EV3 development video, plus another taken on a road run.
Morgan employ around 160 – 170 people, many are craftsmen in their particular trade, and build around 600 plus cars a year.
Waiting list is a good 6 months and Morgan enjoy a large following of enthusiasts world-wide.
Known as the most honest car maker in the world, this video shows why. Enjoy it.
